Holistic Health in Harmony with Nature
Many Eastern medical healing practices are rooted in nature as a model, encouraging us to live in harmony with the seasons and to follow the principles imbedded in nature. The ancient medical arts of China and other Asian cultures embodied methodologies from their observations in nature. In my personal studies I have connected with the language of nature in the medicine I practice. The philosophy that humans and nature are not separate, the knowledge from one can be applied to treat the other and that we are all part of the greater whole encompasses my treatment approach to promote healing and vitality for my patients.
Acupuncture
Acutouch
Medicine from Plants
Acupuncture offers holistic benefits, aiding the body by relieving pain and promoting healing, calming the mind through stress reduction and emotional balance, and nurturing the spirit by fostering a sense of harmony and vitality through Qi alignment.
As a trauma-informed acupuncturist, trained by Alaine Duncan, author Tao of Trauma, I have integrated the approach of forest connection, acupuncture, and bodywork into what I call Acutouch to balance the body systems including the regulatory qualities of the nervous system impacted by trauma. It is believed that our tissues hold our experiences. Over time this act of trying to mediate the imbalances gives way to disease. I consider this the wisdom of the body a gift that helps us address the issues that need our attention, an opportunity to resolve and absolve to live in a happier space.
Plants are a valuable ally when it comes to our healing, the indigenous communities understand this principle. Modern science has extracted the chemical components of plants to design our modern medicines. I incorporate the medicine of plants in several ways. My patients are supported with Chinese herbal formulas. essential oils the are placed on the acupuncture points and flower essences that can provide a variety of benefits as elixirs.
Cupping
Gua Sha
Supplements and Nutritional Support
Cupping is an ancient practice of placing specially designed glass cups that having been heated from the inside on the surface of the skin to draw impurities from the tissue or release fascial constriction in the body. The process can feel like an inverted massage and the patient usually experiences large circular suction marks that disappear after a week of two.
Gua Sha is an ancient Chinese remedy that is simply the process of scrapping the skin using a tool usually made of semi precious stones or metal. The rounded corners and edges of the tool repeated glide across the surface of the skin to open pores and release toxins or release muscle tension that causes pain and limits range of motion.
Hippocrates was onto something when he said ” Let food be thy medicine…” Food and supplements have medicinal qualities that can be the resources the body needs to revive and nourish damaged tissues in the body. The use of clean nutrients as supplements and/or are an important element in restoring our physical, emotional and mental health.
What patients are saying…
I have been dealing with vertigo for a number of years. Some days are better than others, but it is a daily occurrence. Dizziness and nausea are just a few of the symptoms I experience.I began receiving acupuncture treatment, one time per week. The entire experience was so positive and helpful. The space was comfortable, peaceful and very relaxing. My needs were evaluated and the treatment for the session was explained. I was educated on the use of different herbs and how they help. My experience with acupuncture has helped me to manage vertigo symptoms.
